About LYNDEN-BELL AWARD

The Lynden-Bell Award is named after the British Chemist Ruth Marion Lynden-Bell (7 December 1937), a Fellow of the Royal Society and Emeritus Professor of Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Cambridge.

This prestigious prize is awarded in recognition of a distinguished career in the field of ionic liquids.

LIST OF PREVIOUS LYNDEN-BELL AWARD WINNERS

Prof. Alexei Kornyshev

The 1st Lynden-Bell Award was given to Prof. Alexei Kornyshev in recognition of his outstanding career in the field of ionic systems within condensed matter theoretical chemical physics.

The award was presented personally by Prof. Lynden-Bell to Prof. Kornyshev during the ILMAT IV conference in October 2017 (Santiago de Compostela) when he gave an award lecture, entitled « New Horizons in Ionics: Electrochemical Metamaterials ».

Prof. Barbara Kirchner

Prof. Barbara Kirchner from the University of Bonn (Germany) was nominated for the 2nd Lynden-Bell Award by the Honorary Committee of ILMAT V in 2019, held in Paris.

Title of the invited presentation:

‘Understanding the Molecular Cosmos to Enhance Ionic Liquids as Material”

Prof. Alessandro Triolo

Prof. Alessandro Triolo received the Ruth Lynden-Bell Award at ILMAT2023 in recognition of his significant experimental contributions to the development in the field of Ionic liquids.

The title of his plenary lecture was: “The Mesoscopic Landscape in Ionic Liquid-Based Materials.
